Sir Geoffrey Hurst Stand

Surely this is a no brainer for the West Stand?
The bloke's a living legend, but seems to get slightly forgotten by being bundled together with Martin Peters and being measured alongside an even greater club and national legend i.e. Sir Bobby.
- 249 goals in 500 appearances over 13 seasons makes him our second highest goalscorer of all time after Vic Watson and highest goalscorer in living memory. That's an astounding goals ratio.
- Scored 40 goals in 65/66 and 6 goals against Sunderland in one game in 1968.
- Still the only man to score a World Cup final hat-trick. No other club in the World can claim the same for 'one of their own'.
- In doing the above he kept out a Y-word's legend who some thought should have played instead.
- Although he left for Stoke in his 30s, he's always been very pro West Ham and never bad-mouthed the club.
- It'd preserve a bit more of our heritage and class that even the current dubious ownership can't take away.
City, United, Chelsea and Arsenal can only dream of having 2 stands named after 2 living former playing knights and one who's not with us anymore who we know should be a knight.
The bloke's 77 and still has his marbles. I say let's celebrate and honour him before it's too late, ideally at the home game with the Y-words and let Kane know what a real legend looks like.

I’d rather not recognise another player that only fans 50+ will have any recollection of. I’m in my 30’s, but have no memories or personal attachment to Moore, Brooking or Bonds, beyond my dad harping I’m about how great they were in his day. But another stand named after a player from the 60’s or 70’s would only ram it further down our throats that most of us fans missed out.

For me it's a pride thing and something we need to build back into our club, following mismanagement over numerous years, unnecessary relegations, the loss of our last 'Golden Generation' to some of our fiercest local rivals and the move upheaval combined with the current ownership. As well as honouring an all-time great of our own.
For whatever reason, fans of the other big London clubs have always looked down on West Ham/East London. I've never totally understood that. We don't need to bow down to anyone, but should be proud and confident in our own heritage, which is far richer than other parts of London. Spurs have won the title TWICE more than we have, but have somehow managed to con the media down the years that they are a massive club. Ok unfortunately it looks like they might actually be starting to walk the walk now, but things can change quickly.
The crowd at the London Stadium is different. Yes there are tourists, but there are also a lot of fans who used to only go to a handful of games who now go to more.
But more significantly, there are a lot of our youngsters who now go far more often, which has to be a good thing. By naming the final stand after Sir Geoff, it marries in and brings forward our history for them. Apart from all the goals and the WC hattrick, someone who helped us win our only European trophy and an FA Cup.
So 3 stands named after world class players, who are 'one of our owns' and 2 of whom are knights of the realm, plus 1 stand for an adopted prodigal son.
I say again, no other club in the country can match this, let's be proud, let's be different. A nice touch would be to build neighbouring statues of Lyall and Greenwood on the concourse outside the stadium, albeit I won't hold my breath on that one.

I'm all for appealing to a wider audience, but...
Had they split the West Stand (West Stand North & West Stand South) then Lyall/Greenwood would be natural (for me).

Good argument
But
It might cost you more to get in, his stand, he charges £20 for an autograph, gospel, he never did, last couple of years he has.
And that’s not just a “huffers” style of 100 A4 copies of his iconic picture of that hat trick goal..that’s to sign anything, thats the only thing that tips my vote to Greenwood or Lyall.

Fog - great as Hurst is, he only played cricket for Essex, and only once for the first team, getting duck (or goose, or swan. Something feathered)* in each innings.

I met him a couple of years ago when he came to a training day for the team my youngest son played for as they were a Charter Standard team which McDonalds have something to do with. I was completely overwhelmed, I walked over and shook his hand and like a total melt said “Hello Sir Geoff” he laughed and replied “just Geoff will do”! I know it’s cliched but what an absolute gent, chatted for a good 10 mins.
